The stillness of winter provides a fitting backdrop for reflection and renewal. The crisp air and long nights encourage quiet contemplation, aligning with our pursuit of patience and peace. The midweek humpday offers an opportunity to recalibrate, turning our focus away from the world's turmoil and toward the serenity found in Our Lord and Creator.
Amid the rhythm of our weeks, we often forget to pause and notice the presence of His peace. Yet midweek offers us a sacred pause, a moment to seek the strength and stillness that can only come from Our Lord. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” These words from Isaiah 40:31 remind us of the transformative power of waiting on the Lord. As described in scripture, patience is an active trust in the timing and sovereignty of Our Father. Amid life’s trials and demands, patience becomes a pathway to peace that surpasses all understanding and flows from a heart rooted in faith, inspiring us with hope and the promise of renewal.
Peace does not always come in grand, life-altering moments. Often, these small, seemingly inconsequential pauses are found in the spaces where we choose to surrender our impatience and frustration to the One who can transform them into serenity. These pauses could be as simple as taking a deep breath before responding to a challenging email or choosing to pray instead of worrying when faced with a difficult decision.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” These words from Our Lord and Saviour, recorded in the Gospel of John 14:27, carry a profound promise. The peace He offers is not circumstantial, subject to the ebbs and flows of life’s challenges. It is a peace anchored in the unchanging nature of His love and presence. Unlike the fleeting comforts the world offers, His peace endures, providing a steady foundation even amid the storms of life amid life's uncertainties.
Our pursuit of midweek serenity calls us to embrace this peace intentionally. It is a discipline that begins with trust and grows through practice. Trusting in Our Lord’s timing requires us to relinquish our need for control and to accept that not everything will happen according to our plans. In this surrender, we find the freedom to rest in His promises. And in the resting, we discover a patience that allows us to endure and leads to peace.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” This passage from Matthew 5:9, part of the Sermon on the Mount, reminds us that true peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the active and intentional pursuit of harmony and patience. It is a call to action, an invitation to live out the principles of peace and patience in our relationships, communities, and daily lives. As children of Our Father, we are tasked with embodying His peace, becoming vessels through which His love and serenity flow to those around us.
Midweek is not just a checkpoint between the beginning and end of the week but a sacred pause. It is a time to reflect on the peace Our Lord and Creator offer and to trust in His perfect timing. In this pause, we find the opportunity to recalibrate, to turn away from the noise and distractions of the world and toward the quiet assurance of His presence.
Take a moment this Wednesday to identify one area of your life where impatience or worry has taken root. Offer that area to Our Lord in prayer, committing it to His care. As you surrender your burdens, allow His peace to fill the spaces of your heart that anxiety and frustration once occupied. Then, look for opportunities to practice intentional patience throughout the week. Whether extending grace to a coworker, offering a listening ear to a friend, or simply choosing to wait with a calm heart, these small acts of patience become potent expressions of His peace at work in you.
“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” As Paul wrote in Colossians 3:15, the peace of The Almighty is not merely a feeling but a ruling force, a guide that shapes our thoughts, words, and actions. When we allow His peace to rule in our hearts, we create space for gratitude to flourish, transforming our perspective and enriching our lives.
Midweek serenity is a powerful reminder of the peace and patience Our Lord offers to those who seek Him. Even the smallest moments can become sacred opportunities to connect with His peace. Remember that waiting on the Lord renews strength as you go through your week. His peace is unlike the world’s, and He calls us peacemakers.
This Wednesday and every day, let us align our hearts with His will, finding strength in patience and joy in His perfect peace. When we allow His peace to rule in our hearts, we reflect His love to the world, embodying the serenity we long to share. May the restfulness of January nights and the constancy of the stars remind you of the steadfastness of His promises. Let us go forth in faith, patience, and peace, trusting that He who began a good work in us will be faithful to complete it.
