Monday's Devotional for December

December is best remembered as a time when the crisp winter air fills the days, and the stars brighten the nights. It is during this time we are reminded of the steady presence of Our Heavenly Father. A time marked by reflection and anticipation ushers us into a moment when we are spiritually, emotionally, and physically rejuvenated. We are in a season of preparation as we await the celebration of Our Saviour’s foretold coming into the world, a miraculous event that fulfills divine prophecy. He is more than human; He is Our Lord and Saviour, the embodiment of holy love and the source of eternal life. The burdens of life weigh heavily for many during this season. Yet, precisely in these moments of weariness, we are personally invited to discover the spiritual strength that sustains us. His door is never closed to us, even in the deepest shadows of our despair or the loneliest corners of our hearts. Our Saviour stands with unwavering grace, ready to restore our weary souls.

The story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, a place of solitude and prayer on the Mount of Olives, reminds us how the strength of Our Heavenly Father meets us in our weakness. In this sacred garden, Jesus knelt under the weight of the suffering He knew was to come—the betrayal, the cross, and the redemption of humanity. As He prayed in anguish, the Gospel of Luke tells us, “And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.” (Luke 22:43). Even Our Saviour, in His darkest hour, turned to His Father for strength. This moment reveals that seeking strength from Our Lord is not a sign of frailty but a powerful act of trust and surrender. When you bring your burden to Him, you will find a renewal in the soul your heart desperately needs.

How often have you navigated through a particularly challenging season in your life? You may have been recently laid off from your job. Facing an overwhelming storm of financial uncertainty and fear about your future. This happens often during the joyous time of the holiday season. Many feel that joy during this time seems out of reach as one may struggle to make ends meet. The Christmas lights strung along feel like the sting of being mocked as your feelings of despair increasingly bring you down. As the days pass, the weight of your struggles grows heavier, and there may be some days you begin to lose hope. Don't feel that way.

There is strength found in surrendering to Our Lord’s will. Psalm 55:22 states, “Cast your burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Open yourself up to Your Lord and Saviour and release yourself to Him. You will eventually feel a sense of divine guidance and reassurance that you are not alone in your struggles. You may not understand what you are feeling at first, but as time goes on, it will become clear.

You may have walked too long, relying on your ability to navigate life’s challenges, sometimes feeling the need for something more significant. If you find yourself in this moment, praying and asking Our Lord for guidance and strength is OK. This may be an opportunity to experience a sense of peace you may not have felt in years. I want you to realize that true strength is not the absence of trials but the presence of faith that Our Lord is working all things for good.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13). Shift your focus from your problems to the hope in Our Lord, renew yourself in both spirit and mind. Your change will be your perspective and ability to endure. Experience a testament to the transformative power of faith, offering hope and inspiration to those facing similar struggles.

This renewal of strength is not a one-time event but a continual process of trusting in Our Lord’s promises. Scripture often likens this to the work of the Holy Spirit within us, fortifying our inner being to face life’s difficulties. The Septuagint reminds us of this truth in Psalm 118:6: “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” These words speak directly to the courage that comes from knowing we are never alone. Leaning on Our Lord does not permanently remove our challenges but transforms how we face them. This emphasis on the ongoing nature of spiritual renewal is intended to encourage and motivate the audience in their faith journey.

During this December season, as we prepare to celebrate the promise of Our Saviour into the world, let us reflect on what it means to seek strength in Him. His birth was not the arrival of a mere human but the fulfillment of divine prophecy, the coming of the Light into the darkness. The trials we face may test our resolve, but they are also opportunities to deepen our reliance on His grace. When we surrender our burdens to Him, we open ourselves to a renewal that transcends our circumstances.

As you go and experience this month, meditate on how you can trust in Our Lord more fully. Set aside fifteen minutes daily to reflect on scripture, reminding you of His promises. Consider how you might release your burdens and allow Him to work in your life. Whether through prayer, quiet meditation, or acts of service, let this season be a time of spiritual renewal and growth.

May you find renewed courage and purpose to face each day. In the hustle and bustle of December, amidst the celebrations and challenges, remember that true strength is not found in what you can do but in what He can do through you. Take heart, for in Him, you are never alone, and His strength is always sufficient.
